Image of the Day Wins Appfest!

Martin Cooperwaite
Lars Klint, Microsoftie, die-hard Windows Phone advocate and very talented software developer at Kiandra IT won first place for his third Windows Phone App Image of the Day at Melbourne #AppFest this weekend.

Congratulations Lars!

#AppFest is a popular dev event providing the opportunity to network and connect with peers, Microsoft Evangelists and industry experts to make great app ideas happen.

The #AppFest comp involved Lars working on a project throughout the day, presenting it, and then having it critiqued and voted on by event attendees.

The Image of the Day app automatically updates the Windows Phone lock screen with a gorgeous new photo from National Geographic every day. It will also soon include an archive of previous photos. Image of the Day is currently going through certification and will be available on the App Store this week. Stay tuned!

Lars’s other apps include Nyheder and Visual Timer.

Visual Timer, as the name suggests, is a visual count down timer. It allows you to see how much time you have left visually, as well as via the countdown clock. Lars’s inspiration for Visual Timer was his partner’s 7-year old son Jordan, who is on the autism spectrum. Jordan has trouble dealing with time and does not relate to reading traditional time at all, however when it is visual and he can “see” time, he gets it immediately.

Visual Timer is available on the app store here

Lars is busy working on more visual shapes and styles for future versions.

Congratulations Lars, a very well deserved win! We can’t wait to see what you come up with next!
