These days, virtually all Australian businesses are using cloud computing, with 86% of enterprises embracing the trend. According to IT Wire, leading the trend is line-of-business (LOB) managers, who add to the CIO’s cloud spending by direct acquisition of cloud services as a way to drive competitive offerings within their own industries.
A recent survey by International Data Corporation (IDC) revealed that most service provider decisions are handled by business units rather than IT departments.
According to IDC’s Raj Mudaliar, cloud is no longer just about IT infrastructure and is deeply accepted by those in the business services sector. He believes that LOB managers will be the driving force behind the rapid growth of externally sourced services.
The IDC survey also revealed that there has been a significant switch towards virtual private cloud (VPC) as their offerings increase and the costs come down. VPC is a perfect choice for those businesses with medium-risk applications.
The IDC expects that the total Australian public cloud services will see a compound annual growth rate of 24.7%.
