It could be the end for rogue cloud operators, with standards body BSI developing a new Star Certification system for IT security.
According to CRN, the new system will offer a Gold, Silver or Bronze STAR rating, based on how well the system has been embedded into an organisation.
Nick Koukoulas, managing director of BSI, said that the idea came about after strong demand from clients wanting help in making informed decisions regarding IT services.
The star ratings will give a good indication of how a service performs and is good news for cloud providers who offer a quality service.
A study by Cyber Ark found that 56% of businesses aren’t aware what sort of security their cloud providers offer to protect their data. A certification guide should help companies know which providers can be trusted.
A number of cloud hosting businesses have already expressed their support for the initiative, as it means consumers can make more informed buying decisions.
