Cloud

An overused word today, cloud is all about choice - giving you the freedom to choose how you run and pay for IT. Cloud encompasses many solutions and scenarios including private clouds, public clouds and hybrid clouds, and Kiandra can help you determine your cloud strategy, help you migrate to it, and manage and support it.

Put simply, cloud solutions let you pay for services as you need them, when you need them - often with the added benefit of not having to buy or manage any infrastructure.
Chris Munro, Director - Technology Infrastructure

Public Cloud

A cloud strategy for one organisation may see the business move certain services or applications off site to be delivered and managed completely by a third party, such as e-mail or e-mail filtering. In this case the business may decide that it doesn’t want to spend the money or the time implementing and managing these environments, and instead opts to pay a per user fee. This scenario is generally classified as a public cloud solution and means that the organisation does not have to worry about the hardware or the software required to deliver the service. Google Apps for Business - the cloud-based productivity suite that helps you and your team connect and get work done from anywhere, on any device - is a good example of this. Private Cloud

A private cloud solution could involve a business operating infrastructure such as servers (virtual or physical) that are not owned or managed by them, but also not accessible by any other organisation. Alternatively private cloud solutions can involve the customer purchasing and managing their own environment but doing so with scalability and flexibility, so that server load can increase or decrease to support fluctuations in workloads processing requirements.

Hybrid

Hybrid solutions leverage a combination of on-premise, private and/or public cloud infrastructures. For example  during normal operations services are delivered from the private infrastructure, however during peak load times storage or compute resources may be delivered using public infrastructure which can be accessed (and paid for) only as needed.

How Kiandra delivers

Kiandra can help you design the right cloud solution to meet your unique business needs.

Public cloud services such as Microsoft Office 365, hosted e-mail filtering and archiving, and remote backup and disaster recovery solutions are cost effective and easily delivered through the cloud, although they can become unnecessarily complex when managed internally.

Kiandra can migrate you to your chosen services, then manage and support them - freeing up your time and money for more important things in the business.

Stepping up the complexity scale Kiandra is experienced in moving servers, storage and core applications into private clouds. This approach effectively replicates your on premise solution in a data centre, on hardware that you neither have to purchase nor manage. This may include the provision of virtual servers and storage, and applications such as Microsoft Office, on a third-party’s infrastructure (infrastructure-as-a-service) that scales as your environment does, for a set monthly fee.

Rather than purchasing expensive server hardware and  software, you instead have these delivered as a service and paid as a subscription, avoiding high upfront capital costs.

When your infrastructure and software are outsourced - coupled with the services to support and maintain them - it allows you to focus on what your organisation does best without being burdened by the operational management and capital expense of running IT.

With data, security, performance and infrastructure implications that need to be considered, it’s not always as easy as saying “put all my servers in the cloud”. But, the right cloud strategy - properly executed - can allow businesses to reduce complexity and capital expense, and regain focus.
