Data Warehousing
A data warehouse is a collection of information designed to facilitate reporting and analysis, as opposed to routine operations.
The data originates in other corporate applications, allowing business leaders to make informed decisions based on business data — what’s working in the business and what’s not. Data warehousing is the process of creating an information management solution to enable analytical and informational processing, despite the source platform or application.
The original sources of organisational data (that feed into a data warehouse) typically do not structure this information in such a way as to perform the required business analysis efficiently. A data warehouse transforms this data from all sources, stores it, and then enables access to it optimised for business analysis. This makes it much more powerful as a decision making support tool when combined with the appropriate reporting tools.
How Kiandra delivers
Kiandra has extensive, agile data warehouse, project management, analysis, design and development experience. Decision making requirements have driven the need for database infrastructure that is always online, that contains all the information from the online transaction processing (OLTP) systems (including historical data), but that is structured in such a way that facilitates efficient storage, enhances timely analysis and increases the quality of real time decision making processes. Core to our contemporary approach is providing flexible access to data, and not a “one size fits all” model.
Experience and certifications
Kiandra has been awarded the Microsoft Partner of the Year 2011 for our software and web development skill, design and quality - especially with SQL Server. SQL Server provides all the tools necessary to create and manage a data warehouse, including:
- SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS) to create and maintain ETL routines, the Change Data Capture feature to simplify the extraction process, the SQL Server database engine to hold and manage the tables that make up the data warehouse,
- SQL Server Analysis Services (SSAS) to manage an enhanced multidimensional form of the data, optimised for fast reporting and ease of understanding, and
- SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS) which has a wide range of reporting abilities, including excellent integration with Excel and Microsoft Office Word – plus PerformancePoint Server which makes it easy to visualise multidimensional data.
