Risk Management

For us, managing risk means securing a business’s data and reducing the risk and impact of infrastructure failure according to a business’s true requirements. From simple data backup solutions through high-availability, redundant server infrastructure with almost no unplanned downtime, Kiandra can help you assess, plan and deliver an appropriate risk mitigation strategy.

How Kiandra delivers IT risk mitigation services

We reduce risk for business by focusing on data protection principles and by building systems which are resilient. We work closely with businesses to understand what their risk profile is – for instance, how much downtime can be tolerated, what is the state of the current infrastructure – and then designing solutions which support its requirements.

Building resilience in your technology – we implement quality, brand name infrastructure such as HP, IBM, Dell and Cisco to make sure that the systems you implement today will be supported tomorrow. We typically build redundancy into servers to mitigate downtime from component failure – for example additional hard disks, power supplies and fans. We also run tried and tested platforms such as Microsoft Windows Server 2003 and Windows Server 2008 along with trusted server applications like Exchange Server 2007 and SQL Server 2005 and 2008 so you can be sure there’s been significant testing behind the products and there’s responsive support available if you need it.

We use server imaging technologies to enable fast recovery of failed servers. We use server virtualisation technologies such as VMware Virtual Infrastructure to enable us to separate server roles and move server images between physical platforms to keep downtime to a minimum.  And, we can help you establish an appropriate hardware refresh program so that risks of older hardware failing are reduced with known budgetary considerations.

Protection of your data – we see your data as THE most important thing to protect. If your server is the heart of your network then your data is the blood that keeps your business running. For that reason we implement various security technologies to keep it safe and sound. We back up data to disk and to tape – we can even back it up to remote data centres so that it can be recovered in an emergency.
Consolidating servers, applications and data can improve data security since it reduces the amount of data taken offsite. For example, mobile notebooks can be stolen and it can be a trivial exercise to read confidential data and email stored on them unless encryption methods are used. Keeping the data in a physically secure location and delivering it using remote access and thin client technologies such as Citrix XenApp and Microsoft Terminal Services is a good way to start controlling data since it never actually leaves the data-centre.

Compliance – with more and more business communication occurring over email, businesses need to ensure that all correspondence is retained and can be retrieved in the future without alteration. Whether required for litigation or to simply determine who said what to whom and when, it is important to be able to effectively and automatically manage the growing volumes of commercial email. Kiandra uses Symantec Enterprise Vault as a powerful and intelligent email archiving platform to ensure that all messages (in and out) are stored automatically, keeping email databases to manageable sizes.
